Job description
Our Company
Our mission at Dronamics is to improve economic opportunities and protect society through drone technology. To achieve this, we are developing a new type of aircraft, one that is remotely-piloted, extremely fuel efficient and can land nearly anywhere. It can transport up to 350 kg over 2,500 km, saving time, cost and co2 emissions. Apart from moving goods, it can serve other critical missions such as civil protection and public safety. This is the kind of technology that can transform whole economies.
At first, it didn't sound possible, but we keep proving it is, which is why we've called it “The Black Swan”. It can land on short airstrips, enabling on-demand point-to-point flights and autonomous logistics even to the most remote locations that would otherwise take days to reach over ground or sea.
We are starting with domestic air networks in Europe, bringing back to life the multitude of small airfields that are often unused, boosting local infrastructure and economies.
Job requirements
The Role
In this role, you will take ownership of system-level design, integration, and verification of our Black Swan cargo drone platform - a fixed-wing UAS capable of carrying 350 kg over 2,500 km. You will work across disciplines including avionics, propulsion, structures, and ground control to ensure the overall aircraft system meets performance, safety, and certification requirements. Whether your background is in manned aircraft, helicopters, or unmanned systems, what matters is a strong aerospace engineering foundation and the ability to think holistically about complex vehicle-level problems in a fast-paced development environment.
The Responsibilities:
Lead system-level architecture definition, requirements decomposition, and interface management for the UAS platform across all major subsystems (airframe, propulsion, avionics, GCS, datalinks).
Develop and maintain the system requirements baseline, ensuring bidirectional traceability from top-level operational requirements down to subsystem and component specifications.
Coordinate and conduct system-level trade studies, performance analyses, and risk assessments to inform design decisions and programme planning.
Define the system integration and Validation and Verification strategy.
Support the certification and type-approval process by contributing to system safety assessments (FHA, PSSA, SSA) and compliance documentation aligned with EASA and relevant UAS regulatory frameworks.
Manage interface control documents (ICDs) and ensure consistent integration across mechanical, electrical, software, and communications boundaries.
Collaborate with flight-test and operations teams to define test objectives, support flight-test campaigns, and analyse system-level flight data.
Participate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) as the system engineering representative and ensure that review actions are tracked to closure.
Identify and manage system-level risks and issues, maintaining the programme risk register and driving mitigation activities across engineering disciplines.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems engineering processes, tools, and methods as the organisation scales toward serial production.
Your Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
5 to 10 years of professional experience in systems engineering within the aerospace sector (manned aircraft, helicopters, or unmanned aerial systems).
Solid understanding of the full aerospace development lifecycle, from conceptual design through certification and entry into service.
Hands-on experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Polarion).
Working knowledge of aerospace safety assessment methodologies (ARP4754A, ARP4761) and familiarity with DO-178C / DO-254 development assurance standards.
Experience preparing or contributing to certification documentation for EASA, FAA, or equivalent national aviation authorities.
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in system modelling, simulation, or performance analysis tools relevant to aircraft systems.
Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines and coordinate technical activities among diverse engineering teams (structures, avionics, propulsion, software).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to author clear technical documentation and present at design reviews.
Experience with UAS-specific regulations and operational concepts (SORA, EASA Special Conditions, JARUS guidelines) is highly desirable but not required.
Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approaches is desirable but not required.
What We Offer:
A competitive compensation package for a Series A company.
Lots of opportunities for personal and professional growth on a global level.
Tons of work, zero office politics - we are here to impact the lives of millions of people around the world.
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to frame the future of how the world moves goods.
Location:
This role will be based in Sofia, Bulgaria.
