Mechanical Systems Design Engineer

Job description
Our Company
Our mission at Dronamics is to improve economic opportunities and protect society through drone technology. To achieve this, we are developing a new type of aircraft, one that is remotely-piloted, extremely fuel efficient and can land nearly anywhere. It can transport up to 350 kg over 2,500 km, saving time, cost and co2 emissions. Apart from moving goods, it can serve other critical missions such as civil protection and public safety. This is the kind of technology that can transform whole economies.
At first, it didn't sound possible, but we keep proving it is, which is why we've called it “The Black Swan”. It can land on short airstrips, enabling on-demand point-to-point flights and autonomous logistics even to the most remote locations that would otherwise take days to reach over ground or sea.
We are starting with domestic air networks in Europe, bringing back to life the multitude of small airfields that are often unused, boosting local infrastructure and economies.

The Role
We are seeking a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer who would conduct the physical integration of aircraft systems into our UAS with focus to bridge the gap between systems and the mechanical structure, ensuring all components are housed, installed, powered, and calibrated correctly to withstand flight environments for our next-generation UAS. Both Junior and senior applicants are welcomed.
The Responsibilities:
Detailed Mechanical Design & Modeling: Definition of specific mechanical systems requirements derived from UAS high level ones. Support concept/trade studies in coordination with System Engineering to support architectural basic choices. Using advanced CAD software (e.g., 3DX platform, SolidWorks, CATIA, NX) to create precise 3D models and 2D technical drawings for all secondary structures, aircraft systems and powerplant devices and their assemblies.
Cross-Functional Integration: Collaborate with avionics, propulsion, software, structures and supply teams to resolve system-level trade-offs and clash resolutions (interference between parts).
Prototyping & Testing: Building and evaluating physical prototypes to identify design flaws and iterate for better performance and to set up calibration procedures of integrated systems.
Manufacturing & Compliance: Design and analyses tasks supporting product development activities on Mechanical systems, taking into account manufacturability and integration constraints. Defining materials and tolerances (GD&T) to ensure designs are cost-effective to manufacture and meet regulatory safety standards (ISO, ASME). Essential skills for DFM (Design for Manufacturing).
Production & Quality: To be involved production technologies such as composite manufacturing, milling, sheet metal processing and additive manufacturing to provide qualified design and quality assurance basis.
Certification: Ensure compliance with aerospace UAS regulations and industry standards.
Your Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field or an equivalent career experience.
Professional Experience: design and integration of systems from specific components up to entire system architectures based on engineering level of applicant, preferably in UAV or aircraft development.
Software Proficiency: Expertise in CAD software SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX. CATIA/3DEXPERIENCE platform and basic skills in programming (Python)- advantage.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with FAA/EASA certification (e.g., Part 21), ARP 4754, DO160G, UAS regulations (SORA framework) - advantage.
Language: English C1 level - Bulgarian advantage.
What We Offer:
A competitive compensation package for a Series A company.
Lots of opportunities for personal and professional growth on a global level.
Tons of work, zero office politics - we are here to impact the lives of millions of people around the world.
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to frame the future of how the world moves goods.
